Robinson Makes History with MVP and Sixth Man Double at Cheshire
Cheshire Phoenix's Patrick Robinson has been named the Molten Most Valuable Player for the 2025/26 Super League Basketball season, completing a remarkable personal double after also claiming the Sixth Player of the Year award — a combination that head coach Ben Thomas believes may be unprecedented in the league's history.
The award, voted for by head coaches, captains and select media, recognises a debut SLB season of exceptional quality. Robinson started just two of his 28 Championship appearances yet still topped the league's scoring charts with 20 points per game, while also leading the division in two-point percentage at 60.8% — a testament to the relentless attacking pressure he applied night after night.
His contributions helped power Cheshire to second in the Championship, semi-final appearances in both the Cup and Trophy, and a place in this Sunday's Play-off Final at The O2, where they face London Lions.
Robinson was candid in reflecting on his success, crediting dedication and discipline as the foundations of his season. He also acknowledged the influence of coach Thomas, whose instruction to prioritise driving over settling for three-pointers he said had genuinely transformed his understanding of his own potential.
Thomas was effusive in his praise, describing Robinson as "invaluable" and highlighting his consistency regardless of role or minutes. "He's been a handful for every team, every night," the Phoenix head coach said.
With Sunday's final still to come, Robinson has the chance to add a championship ring to his already historic haul.
